A major fire broke out early today at the Ice Cream Specialties Distribution Center at 6510 Broadway in Merrillville, Indiana. The freezer warehouse was not damaged, but the garage and nearly all delivery trucks were destroyed. The facility was closed when the fire broke out, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Contingency plans are in place to bring delivery vehicles from other locations to the Merrillville warehouse. Local deliveries may be affected for one to two days. The facility serves as a distribution center for North Star Frozen Treats that are manufactured in Lafayette, Ind., and St. Louis, Missouri. Manufacturing operations were not affected by the fire.
